Tyvon Branch brings flexibility, coverage ability

What can we expect from the new Cardinals safety?

Greg M. Cooper-USA TODAY Sports

The only new free agent the Arizona Cardinals have added so far this offseason is safety Tyvon Branch, whom they signed to a two-year contract. Bruce Arians explained to Jenny Vrentas in a recent Q&A for MMQB.com what Branch brings.

One thing is something Arians preaches in many position groups -- position flexibility."He can play free safety, strong safety; he can play nickel [cornerback]," he explained.

But that isn't it. His also able to cover guys well. "He does a great job playing man-to-man, and that's something we need out of our safeties."

Safety coverage one-on-one has been an issue. They have had solid safety play from several players, but aside from Tyrann Mathieu, who mostly plays in the slot, they have not been great in man coverage. Hopefully Branch can help with that.

It is not known yet whether he will be a starter or not, but it appears that way for now. But now on the offensive line, defensive line and at the safety position they have many players who can play many positions. That's how Arians wants things.
