2016 NFL free agency: Tamba Hali returns to Chiefs, Cardinals lose out on another pass rusher

Hali appears to be set to end his career in Kansas City.

John Rieger-USA TODAY Sports

Another pass rushing target is off the board. Linebacker Tamba Hali, one of the reported targets for the Arizona Cardinals, has chosen to return to the Kansas City Chiefs on a three-year contract. It is worth a reported $22 million.

Hali had 6.5 sacks in 2015 and only six in 2014, but he has amassed 86 in his 10 years in the NFL, all with the Chiefs. He has been a Pro Bowler each of the last five seasons.

He is 32 years old, so this contract presumably allows him to finish his career with the only team he has ever played for.

Arizona reportedly was targeting Hali, along with three other pass rushers. So far, they have struck out on both Hali and Jason Pierre Paul, who also chose to return to his original team.

The Cardinals have made it a priority to improve their pass rush this offseason. As a team, they only had 36 sacks last season, which was 20th best in the league.

With Hali and Pierre Paul off the board, who will be their next target?
