Forget Olivier Vernon to the Cardinals, the pass rusher signs huge contract with the Giants

Another pass rusher gone.

There was no reported interest by the Arizona Cardinals, but they have lost out on another free agent pass rusher. Olivier Vernon, who recently had the transition tag removed by the Miami Dolphins, has agreed to a massive contract with the New York Giants, who also brought back Jason Pierre Paul, whom the Cardinals tried to sign.

The deal is for five years and a reported $85 million, with more than $52 million in guaranteed money.

The Cardinals have missed out on all the edge players they reportedly targeted -- William Hayes, Jason Pierre Paul, Mario Williams, Tamba Hali and Bruce Irvin.

Again, there were no reports of the Cardinals being interested in Vernon, but he was considered the best remaining pass rusher left on the market, and the Cardinals have said many times their number one priority is to improve their pass rush, which was 20th in the league last season.
