It has been a while since we had any sort of roster move for the Arizona Cardinals, but on Friday afternoon the team announced a pair of cuts. With the offseason training program starting next week, the team cut ties with running backs Marion Grice and Robert Hughes, both of whom spent time on the practice squad in 2015 and on the active roster in 2014.
The moves will not change anything with the salary cap, as only the top 51 contracts of the team count right now.
It would not be surprising if there were injuries involved. You can cut injured players in the offseason.
It opens a couple of roster spots, and it opens the door for the team to add other rookie running backs. On the roster already are David Johnson, Chris Johnson, Andre Ellington, Stepfan Taylor and Kerwynn Williams. We should expect to see at least a couple of backs added either in the draft or as free agent rookies. in the weeks to come.
