Arizona Cardinals offseason: Strength and conditioning program begins, who gets workout bonuses?

The offseason begins for the players.

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Today is April 18, which means the offseason workout schedule begins for the Arizona Cardinals. They begin the strength and conditioning portion of the offseason.

For a few players, it means time to make a little bit of money. According to contract info found on Spotrac, there are nine players who have workout bonuses in their contracts.

The following players will get bonuses for participating in 75 percent of the offseason workouts:

DT Calais Campbell, $250,000
CB Patrick Peterson, $250,000
DT Corey Peters, $150,000
S Tyrann Mathieu, $70,000
DT Red Bryant, $25,000
C A.Q. Shipley, $25,000
RB David Johnson, $24,000
QB Matt Barkley, $20,000
OLB Tristan Okpalaugo, $10,000

Workout bonuses are apparently not something the Cardinals love to put in contracts these days. Only seven had them last year, and three are players who have them this year. There were 12 in 2014 and 13 in 2013.

According to the collective bargaining agreement, players who do not get workout bonuses also get a little bit of money. If players attend three of four weekly workouts, they will get $175 per day they were there. It's not a lot, but it's something.
