The first round of the 2016 NFL Draft is complete. 31 players were selected. Trades were made. Players fell some unexpectedly. So what did we learn from the events of Round 1?
Lots of trades:
Before draft day, we already had the Los Angeles Rams and Philadelphia Eagles trade up to get the top to picks overall so they could select Jared Goff and Carson Wentz as their quarterbacks of the future. But after that, there were more moves.
On draft day, the Titans and the Browns, the two teams who moved out of the top two spots, made a deal. Tennessee traded up from 15 to eight to take tackle Jack Conklin.
The Chicago Bears moved up two spots from 11 to nine and drafted pass rusher Leonard Floyd. Tampa Bay moved down a pair of spots and still landed cornerback Vernon Hargreaves, a guy many mock drafts had them taking ninth overall.
The Houston Texans moved up one spot, trading with the Washington Redskins to select speedy receiver Will Fuller.
The Denver Broncos made their move for a quarterback. They moved up from 31 to 26, trading with the Seattle Seahawks to select Paxton Lynch.
Then, rounding out the trades, the San Francisco 49ers moved back into the first round, moving sixth pick in the second round to the 28th pick in the first. They selected guard Joshua Garnett. The Chiefs move back into the second round.
The mighty fell
Laremy Tunsil was the story of the night. A video popped up on social media with him smoking marijuana in a gas mask, He was apparently hacked. He was expected to be the first pick overall until the Titans traded back. He ended up being the 13th overall and the third tackle taken.
Linebacker Myles Jack, who some believed could be a top five pick, did not get drafted in the first round. The concerns about his knee apparently scared teams away.
Robert Nkemdiche, who was a top five pick to many for a while, fell all the way to 29th, when the Arizona Cardinals scooped him up.
Quarterback Paxton Lynchwas thought to go as high as the top 10. He fell all the way to 26.
The run on quarterbacks never happened
We all knew Goff and Wentz would be the first guys taken. But some thought there would be a run on quarterbacks, especially if Paxton Lynch went early. Some believed as many as five could get drafted in the first round. Lynch fell to 26th and he was the last to go at the position.
Good time to be a Buckeye
The first round was dominated by Ohio State players. Five were drafted in the first round -- Joey Bosa, Ezekiel Elliott, Eli Apple, Taylor Decker and Darron Lee. That is one short of the record for a school with first rounders.
