Chargers confirm joint practices with Arizona Cardinals in San Diego in training camp

The details are still in the works, but it is going to happen.

Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said recently the team was looking into the possibility of holding joint practices in San Diego during training camp in the week leading up to their second preseason game. While the details have not been completely hammered out, it is going to happen, per Chargers head coach Mike McCoy.

"You can count on us doing it," coach Mike McCoy said Monday, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. "I can't tell you it's going to be this day, it's going to be that day. But we're going to practice against Arizona."

The two teams face one another in the preseason on Friday August 19. The Cardinals would be unable to practice at University of Phoenix Stadium on August 15 because Guns N' Roses has a concert that night.

While a guest on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM, Arians suggested they would hold one public practice at Qualcomm Stadium, perhaps Tuesday August 16, and probably another closed one not at the stadium.

That means Arizona fans can make a trip of it. Take the week to spend some time near the beach when the weather is the worst here in Phoenix. See the practice on Tuesday, spend Wednesday and Thursday at the beach, watch the football game on Friday and maybe even hit up a baseball game (the Arizona Diamondbacks will be in San Diego  for a three-game set that Friday through Sunday).

Arians, though, says not to expect any fights. Everyone has the goal of getting better and staying healthy. . Practicing with another team just allows players a break from facing their teammates day after day, and it allows them to see other looks from other teams.

Will you be in San Diego that week? It sounds like it could be a fun week if you wanted it to be.
