The Arizona Cardinals signed 16 rookie free agents -- players who did not get taken in the 2016 NFL Draft. Since we probably don't know as much about them as the draftees, we will get a short bio about each and some highlights.
Our first look is at running back Jared Baker out of the University of Arizona.
Baker is 5-8 and 192 pounds. He rushed for 1,109 yards on 203 carries (5.5 avg.) with 12 touchdowns during his career as a Wildcat. A Los Angeles native, Baker had a career-high 798 rushing yards on 131 carries (6.1 yard avg.) with nine touchdowns while playing in all 12 games as a senior. He also returned 18 kicks for 390 yards in his career.
Three times he rushed for over 100 yards in 2015, including 207 yards against Colorado.
He was not invited to the NFL Scouting Combine.
However, at his Pro Day, Baker showed off his speed. He ran a 4.4 40 or faster and some said he got 4.32. His draft profile page says he ran it in 4.49. He has a 32-inch vertical and benched 225 pounds 17 times.
He was a state champion sprinter in high school.
Chance to make the roster? Slim. he has speed, but the Cardinals need their running backs to be able to handle blitz pickup. And the room is already crowded.
