Will any rookie tryout players get signed by Arizona Cardinals?

New, comments

It seems every year there are some.

This weekend, the Arizona Cardinals held their rookie mini-camp. The players were a mix of draft picks, undrafted rookies and players who did not accrue a year of service as a rookie. Guys like Rob Crisp who were on the practice squad or Edawn Coughman, who was signed this offseason.

Here is the rookie roster for mini-camp:

The Cardinals also brought in many tryout guys to be able to practice.

Those players are:

WR Nnamdi Agude
G Brian Berzanski
LB Daniel Brown
TE Benson Browne
WR Marquis Bundy
LB Darius Fleming
G Eric Herman
WR Chirstopher Hubert
LB Kingsley Ibeh
NT Terry Jackson
CB Travis Manning
NT Demetrius Mason
TE Benjamin McCord
LB Michael Moore
DT Jordan Nielsen
RB Elijhaa Penny
LB Josh Popper
QB Stephen Rivers
RB Kendall Roberson
C Arthur Rowell
CB Joel Wilkinson

Most of these tryout guys will simply go home. But there might be a couple who show they can learn quickly -- more quickly than guys already on the roster. That will get them signed.

Last year, three players were signed after a successful tryout -- safety Harold Jones-Quartey, safety Brandon Person and quarterback Phillip Sims.

Jones-Quartey did not make final cuts for the Cardinals and was a practice squad target, but he was claimed off waivers and spent the season with the Chicago Bears.

Person was waived/injured during the preseason, while Sims almost made the team. He battled Logan Thomas for the third QB spot on the roster. Ultimately, he was cut along with Thomas, as the team traded for Matt Barkley.

Monday will be the big day. It would be the day we get word of players being signed.
