Dwight Freeney to Sign With Atlanta Falcons

The veteran pass rusher was not willing to wait for the Arizona Cardinals and will instead sign with the Atlanta Falcons

Per reports from ESPN's Adam Schefter, Dwight Freeney will be signing a one year deal with the Atlanta Falcons for the 2016 season.

Many believed that Freeney would be inline to receive a contract offer from the Arizona Cardinals as the start of the regular season approached, but Freeney and the Falcons have been in talks the last couple of weeks.

The Arizona Cardinals will begin the 2016 season with Calais Campbell as the returning sack leader on the team, but with off season additions of Chandler Jones and Robert Nkemdiche, the Arizona Cardinals expect to see a much improve pass rush.

Freeney was instrumental in a number of Arizona Cardinals victories in 2015, but maybe more than anything, Freeney brought a veteran presence to a young core of pass rushers.

With his signing in Atlanta, the Arizona Cardinals will likely pick from Kareem Martin, Shaquille Riddick and CFL import Tristan Okpalaugo as their second until pass rusher to team with Alex Okafor.

Good luck in Atlanta, Dwight, Arizona Cardinals fans appreciate your year in the desert.
