This loss was much different than the loss to the Oakland Raiders last week. At least the first team offense moved the ball for the Arizona Cardinals last week, but this week, the first team and second team offense did... Nothing.
With that in mind, take a look at the Arizona Cardinals key stats that defined the Arizona Cardinals 19-3 loss to the San Diego Chargers.
- 14.9% - The combined quarterback rating of Carson Palmer and Drew Stanton in the Cardinals loss. The duo found a way to go 6-15 for 69 yards 0 TDs and 2 INTs.
- 63 - Yards rushing allowed by the San Diego Chargers to the Arizona Cardinals. Last week the Chargers allowed 288 yards rushing to the Tennessee Titans. I am not sure what this speaks more to, but there is something here.
- 46.4 - Net punting average for Drew Butler and Garrett Swanson. This is the state after the return is included. This was a key to the game, so it was good to see the Arizona Cardinals take a step forward.
- 0% - San Diego's red zone touchdown efficiency for the game. Excellent work by the Arizona Cardinals defense all game long to keep the Chargers out of the end zone.
- 27 - Chargers total return yards for four punts and one kick off. Again, huge improvements over the previous week.
- 46 - Yards rushing allowed by the Arizona Cardinals. A positive from the previous week when the Cardinals were... gashed.
- 12 - Total first downs by the Arizona Cardinals against the Chargers. One of the worst offensive outputs in the Arians era. Regardless of preseason, the offense, as a whole was awful.
- 1 - Sack on the preseason by the Arizona Cardinals defense. Chandler Jones looked more active this game, his pressure forced Kellen Clemens up and Josh Mauro did a great job of cleaning up getting the teams first sack of the preseason.
A tough loss for the Arizona Cardinals. Not because they lost in a preseason game, but more because the offense, what is expected to be great, has really spun its wheels the first two weeks. Maybe they are saving it for the regular season.
Nothing to worry about yet.
