Madden 17: What's New and What Makes It More Awesome Than Ever

New, comments

The new Madden 17 game is out for your playing pleasure and trust me when I say this, it's pretty sweet.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Hey everyone, Christmas came early this year. Madden 17 was released this past Tuesday for all Playstation and Xbox consoles -- well, not your old original Xbox or PS2. EA has been boasting about their new updates to the game from last year, and for good reason. The graphics are better, the game play is smoother, the plays are more diverse and the game, simply put, kicks considerably more ass.

After playing a few games, I can honestly tell you that my favorite new additions involve special teams play. On punts, it's not as simple as just kicking the punt in the direction you want to. Yes, the kicking meter is completely different, but you can also choose the type of punt you want to kick. A regular punt like the old games? No problem. But on top of that, now you can kick one sky high (albeit, not as far) to allow your defenders to get down the field. You can also punt with some backspin on the ball to try and pin your opponent down near their own goal line.

Blocking kicks has become a real part of the game now as well. I haven't managed to do it yet, mostly because I'm not very good at the game, but it definitely is possible.

The defensive schemes are much more diverse and complex, which is great for those of you that have been playing Madden for a while. There are new zone concepts and blitzing includes more gap integrity and a greater ability to stop the run. Beware though, the runners got a new perk added for them as well. When running, a box will be presented in front of the offense, which helps show where the runner might have the most success if running that specific path. You may think it is making the game too easy, but trust me when I say that it is just a cool new dynamic that really doesn't decide everything.

Perhaps the coolest new add-on? The tackle battles. When your runner is on the verge of being tackled, a button will flash on the screen that the player on offense can hit that will allow them to break the tackle and continue running.

Needless to say, all of these new additions can truly change the outcome of your game entirely.

So go pick up your new copy of Madden 17 for Xbox One, Xbox 360, Playstation 4 or Playstation 3, in stores now! And if you have any questions, leave them in the comments below and I will do my best to answer them.
