Arizona Cardinals 2016 Depth Chart

New, comments

The initial depth chart for the Arizona Cardinals is out, take a look and react.

The Arizona Republic-USA TODAY Sports

The Arizona Cardinals have released their initial depth chart for the 2016 pre-season, there are not a ton of surprises, outside of the depth.

Here is the breakdown with comments on any surprises.

QB:
Carson Palmer
Drew Stanton
Matt Barkley
Jake Coker

RB:
David Johnson
Chris Johnson
Andre Ellington
Stepfan Taylor
Kerwynn Williams
Elijhaa Penny

WR:
Larry Fitzgerald
Michael Floyd
John Brown
Jaron Brown
J.J. Nelson
Chris Hubert
Brittan Golden
Jacon Shipley
Amir Carlisle
Marquis Bundy
Franky Okafor

Look at Chris Hubert making strides up the board.  He's an Arians wide receiver, small, quick, and explosive down the field.

TE:
Darren Fells
Jermaine Gresham
Troy Niklas
Ifeanyi Momah
Gerald Christian
Hakeem Valles

OL From LT to RT:
Jared Veldheer
Mike Iupati
A.Q. Shipley
Evan Mathis
D.J. Humphries
John Wetzel
Antoine McClain
Earl Watford
Taylor Boggs
Rob Crisp
Clay DeBord
Jake Bernstein
Evan Boehm
Cole Toner
Price Givens

The two offensive linemen the Arizona Cardinals drafted in 2016 show up as third string on the depth chart.  Boehm is more surprising than Toner, but could both end up not making the roster?  I doubt it, but this is something to watch.

DL DT-DT:
Calais Campbell
Corey Peters (NT)
Rodney Gunter
Ed Stinson
Xavier Williams (NT)
Frostee Rucker
Red Bryant (DT)
Josh Mauro (DT)
Robert Nkemdiche (DT)
Olsen Pierre (DT)

Nothing surprising here outside of how far down the depth chart Red Bryant is.  Ed Stinson has done an excellent job so far.  Can he hold off the veteran?  Josh Mauro looks like he could be the odd man out, cause they are not cutting Nkemdiche.

LB (SAM-$LB-ILB-WILL):
Chandler Jones
Deone Bucannon
Kevin Minter
Markus Golden
Alex Okafor
Chris Clemons
Alani Fua
Kareem Martin
Shaq Riddick
Gabe Martin
Donald Butler
Tristan Okpalaugo
Lamar Louis (ILB)
Zack Wagenmann (WILL)

Do the Cardinals keep Okpalaugo, Martin or Butler?  That's the interesting question at this point.

DB (LCB-RCB-SS-FS)
Patrick Peterson
Brandon Williams
D.J. Swearinger
Tyrann Mathieu
Cariel Brooks
Justin Bethel
Tyvon Branch
Tony Jefferson
Harlan Miller
Asa Jackson
Marqui Christian
Matthias Farley
Mike Jenkins
Shaun Prater
Durrell Eskridge
Trevon Hartfield (CB)
Alan Ball (CB)
Ronald Zamort (CB)
Elie Bouka (CB)

Swearinger... Huh?  Everything else makes sense but Swearinger.  It is almost as though we continue to like Tony Jefferson more than the Arizona Cardinals actually do.

Obviously the safety rotation is crazy, we'll see Tyvon Branch in the slot to start and Tony Jefferson will be the starting free safety.

Specials:
Chandler Catanzaro
Drew Butler
Daniel Dillon/ Kameron Canaday
Garrett Swanson

They are not showing their hand on the Dillon Canaday battle that I know we are all enthralled with.

J.J. Nelson is listed as the kick and punt returner.  Andre Ellington then Brittan Golden and Chris Hubert are the next in line in kick returns.

John Brown, then Golden and Hubert in punt returns.

What stands out to you?
