The Arizona Cardinals head into week two of the regular season missing some key players, as the Thursday injury report is out for the Arizona Cardinals and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
For the Cardinals, Kareem Martin, Frostee Rucker, and Tyrann Mathieu were on the “did not participate” list. The Mathieu absence is the not that concerning as defensive coordinator James Bettcher said it was an expected day off yesterday and today’s day off is probably just precautionary. We were aware of Martin and Rucker’s status.
Making a limited return to practice today: Evan Mathis, J.J. Nelson, Jaron Brown and Kevin Minter, while Larry Fitzgerald and Stepfan Taylor remained limited for Thursday.
Justin Bethel and Drew Butler were both full participants for the second day in a row.
While the elevation of Mathis, Nelson, Brown and Minter is good to see, I imagine Mathis and Fitzgerald will see a lot of time as “limited” this season.
For the Buccaneers, they had one player limited in Robert Ayers, while the rest of their injury report was full participants in linebackers Adarius Glanton, Devante Bond and Lavonte David. Safety Ryan Smith was also full participant today.
The Bucs lost rotational pass rusher Jacquies Smith, who had really developed nicely over the last several years as a rotational pass rusher.
The Cardinals injury report seems much worse, but nothing was really a surprise or a worry... unless the Mathieu thing is something.
