A look at the candidates for the ROTB gameball.

It was another ugly outing for the Cardinals. The team suffered their second game in three weeks in which the offense scored less than 10 points. It was also the third straight game the defense surrendered 30 points. The team does not know who they want to be, and it’s frustrating for the fans.

While the team may have been horrible, there are a number of players who deserve some recognition for their play in Week Seven. So without further ado, let’s take a look.

Jared Veldheer:

Say what? Oh, I said it. Veldheer was the teams best pass blocker on Sunday, accounting for only two hurries on 36 pass blocking snaps. Veldheer has slowly begun to turn it around as a right tackle, especially after his very sluggish and poor start to the season.

Deone Bucannon:

Bucannon was targeted 10 times in coverage on Sunday. He allowed seven to be completed for 43 yards. He recorded a pick, the first one that Jared Goff has thrown in a win this season. Three weeks returned from injury, Bucannon has gotten better each week.

Patrick Peterson:

The frustration can be seen on Peterson’s face. He knows this defense is better than it plays. Self-inflicted wounds are this team’s problem so far. The talent is not to be denied. Peterson once again played to the level the team and fans expect. He shut down Sammy Watkins and allowed no catches in one target.

Tramon Williams:

In his first game replacing Justin Bethel, Williams did a serviceable job. He allowed six of his eight targets to be caught to be caught for 62 yards. The numbers are not bad, but they’re not much better than what I would expect from Bethel.
