After the 2017 NFL trade deadline has come and gone, the Arizona Cardinals roster… is the same.
Which is the right move.
The Cardinals lack healthy assets at this juncture to be sellers and in the same place, the lack of those assets means trying to replace them would be expensive and potentially handcuff them in retooling their roster for whatever is next.
It makes sense because you don't have options to replace Jared Veldheer at right tackle, as they are still trying to piece together the best offensive line possible.
Trading Larry Fitzgerald, when he's been the only consistent threat in the receiving game, for what? Maybe a third round pick?
Could they have made a small deal? Sure, but the 49ers likely were not trading Rashard Robinson to the Cardinals for a fifth round pick.
The Cardinals stood pat, they didn't mortgage the future, they didn't sell off for picks in what looks like an average draft class.
It may not have been entertaining, but it was the right decision.
