What has been wanted for some since his signing may come to fruition for the first time next Sunday for the Arizona Cardinals.
A report from ESPN’s Chris Mortensen:
Sources: Drew Stanton sprained knee Thursday. Blaine Gabbert starts at Houston week 11 if Stanton can’t go. Matt Barkley being brought back.

It was clear that something happened to Drew Stanton on Thursday Night, which makes his performance even more impressive against a great Seahawks defense.
However, it wasn’t enough and fans have been calling now for Blaine Gabbert to get the start or get some starts moving forward.
Well, Stanton’s inability throughout his career as a starter to stay healthy may give fans that opportunity.
In fact, Gabbert may be starting on Sunday and guess who is back as the back up:
Beyond excited to be back with the @AZCardinals! #BeRedSeeRed

Honestly... The NFL product is down not for any reason other than...
Blaine Gabbert versus Tom Savage in week 11 of the NFL season. Not a preseason game, not a week 17 game with two teams in the playoffs... A week 11 NFL game, with two teams that were supposed to be good, are starting Gabbert and Savage.
Not that Stanton versus Savage was better.
And, for my money, I’d like to see what Gabbert has, because we know Stanton is nothing more than a career backup.
Has Arians whispered enough into Gabbert to help him get better?
