Arizona Cardinals "high" on Deshaun Watson per CBS Sports report

While we decipher through the BS, this blogger weeps in happiness and hope.

The Arizona Cardinals need a plan for the post Carson Palmer era, no one is going to dispute that.

Who that player should be, if they should be drafted or brought in via free agency or trade are where all the opinions differ.

Well, according to Jason La Canfora and his sauces (see this article for clarification to this reference) the Arizona Cardinals “very high” on Deshaun Watson:

If Carson Palmer retires, Romo could be an option in Arizona, and sources said the Cardinals are very high on Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson and could be prepared to trade up to land him this spring. If the Cardinals determine Watson is out of their reach, Tyrod Taylor is very appealing to Arizona and would be a great fit in Bruce Arians' scheme.

First, we know Romo is not coming here, since Palmer is unlikely to retire, but the nugget on Watson gives me hope... It gives me life... It ultimately will be wrought with disappointment.

If the Arizona Cardinals are interested in Watson, it would be fantastic to see them grab the player that could continue the tradition of winning that has been established under Bruce Arians and Steve Keim with Carson Palmer at the helm.

Watson is not without his warts, his deep ball accuracy leaves something to be desired and he has a history injuries, but he is in a similar mold to Russell Wilson, at least to me, with his ability to extend plays and create when there is nothing there.

Watson would also be a departure from the typical Bruce Arians quarterbacks he has coveted in the past. Which is what gives me the most pause with this report.

Watson and Taylor are similar types of players, so if this report is true, it would signal the changing of an era, but it would also mean that the Cardinals understand they may need to maneuver Bruce Arians’ style of play.

Hopefully this is true, I just don’t want to get my hopes up too much.

Of course, a lot can change in 84 days, so who knows what to believe.
