Here begins a mock draft before the combine, with explanations for the Cardinals picks. You will either hate it or won't mind it enough to where you think potential will outweigh the other. If you read the whole draft, you'll see that there are NO quarterbacks or offensive lineman in the first round. That's not a mistake. The fact remains that it's a very weak offensive line class, with the quarterbacks being more of developmental. Either way, enjoy the mock draft.

Athleticism is contagious, but being 'raw' is a more typical attribute in the NFL. Other inside linebackers like Reuben Foster and Zach Cunningham come from the SEC, and are more valued then a guy like Elijah Lee of Kansas State. I've seen tape of Cunningham, I know that his tackling ability seems more adapted to the NFL, while Foster has been compared to the likes of Ray Lewis and Brian Urlacher.
No comparisons here, Elijah Lee is a faster then fast inside linebacker (I assume he runs a 4.45 at the combine), and could be what the NFL looks for in an the middle of your defense. Fast, athletic, and a side-to-side linebacker who runs east-to-west fairly quickly. I loved his uber-rich tackling ability that translated to the beginning of the season. If you're going to watch film on him, watch the Stanford game.

In the second round, quarterbacks start getting their names called like hot cakes at Disneyland. The Cardinals find themselves in the midst of a very difficult offseason, where many are pondering "will they" or "won't they". The questions are directed to the quarterback position, do the Cardinals have what it takes to draft the quarterback of the future or will they again shy away from the fields most important position?
In this mock, no quarterbacks in the first round, but so far, Deshaun Watson, Patrick Mahomes, DeShone Kizer, and Mitch Trubisky have found their homes in the second round. These are developmental QB's, that's why they slid. I see that Davis Webb has great size, his arm strength seems to have the type of zip that Arians loves, and he can make plays with his legs if necessary. But will the spread offense hold his development back?

Damontae Kazee - Cornerback
San Diego State - Redshirt Senior
5-10, 184 Pounds
Too good to pass up, that's how I categorize Damontae Kazee reaching the Cardinals in the third round. This pick is good for both Kazee and the Cardinals, as Kazee can afford to have some teaching moments, while the Cardinals get a bonafide stud on special teams immediately, with a dash of nickel capabilities. I know that the Cardinals already have Tyrann Mathieu and Tyvon Branch at nickel, but I think if last year was any indication, injuries happen.
If the Cardinals get a corner in this years draft, the competition could be palpable. Brandon Williams still needs time to develop (one year doesn't make him a bust), Justin Bethel was beneficial at the end of the season (but can he do it throughout the season), and a possible free agent could all be options. Development is what will be afforded as a developmental player, and I feel good about it.
