Over the last month there has been a barrage of information on the Arizona Cardinals.
Even more than that barrage of information is the fact that much of the information is… second and third hand information on the most important position in sports, the quarterback.
While we at Revenge of the Birds are always going to continue to put all the information available out, I hope that my own cynical views bleed through enough to know that I take everything as just a rumor.
If not, well now you know.
I wanted to really just look at what we know so far and then maybe touch on the rumors, maybe that will be another article, but here's what we know:
The Cardinals have basically met with every big name and medium named quarterback that will be available in the 2017 NFL Draft.
Except, for DeShone Kizer. I didn't even find mention of the Cardinals sending a Tom Moore or Byron Leftwich to check out Kizer’s pro day (if you have anything different please put it in the comments)
That tells me one of two things:
- AZ knows enough about Kizer that they aren't worried or don't need more information.
- They're all the way out on Kizer.
That's some varying ends of the spectrum, but it doesn't make sense. Why have they been all over every other QB? They're playing it extremely close to the vest with Kizer and don't want the information out that they like him, or they really have zero interest at all.
The whole thing about it was no big deal for Bidwill to go to the Mahomes meeting is silly. It's a huge deal to know if, for the first time in your franchises history, you have a chance to turn over a good team to a QB, it that kid coming out is your guy.
There was mention of free agency and trade, but the names on the market now are Jay Cutler and Colin Kaepernick.
Next year, Kirk Cousins, Drew Brees and Matt Stafford are all free agents.
Cousins seems locked into San Francisco at this point. Brees is Palmer's age.
I can't see Detroit letting Stafford walk without at least one year of franchise tags, so… who else? Mike Glennon if he flames out from the Bears? Tony Romo?
The reality is, maybe Gambo really did stumble onto something. Maybe he got some information and passed it along.
Time will tell if it's right, but it is interesting how out of left field it was.
