With the draft three short weeks away, the mock draft generator is at full tilt.
Everyone associated with a football website is bringing out their thoughts on the 2017 NFL Draft.
We are getting more mocks than we know what to do with, but two I will always bring over to you are SB Nation's Dan Kadar and the Godfather of the NFL Draft world, Mel Kiper Jr.
Well, today ESPN released their first joint mock of the year, with Kiper and Todd McShay and they both mocked the same position to the Arizona Cardinals at 13, but two different players to fill that void:
Kiper: Patrick Mahomes II, QB, Texas Tech | Watch highlights
I had Watson here in Mock 3.0, and I'm sticking with a quarterback. This time it's the toolsy Mahomes, who is extremely raw but has undeniable arm talent. He was among my top risers after the combine, and I've moved him up to my No. 3 quarterback. In Arizona, he'd be able to sit behind Carson Palmer and continue his development. Mahomes needs at least one redshirt year.
McShay: Mitch Trubisky, QB, North Carolina | Watch highlights
It's a little early for Mahomes, Mel, but you're right about one thing: The Cardinals need to start planning for life without Palmer. Trubisky has the natural accuracy and pocket mobility to develop into a quality starter. If neither of the top-two QBs (Watson or Trubisky) are available, I could see Arizona nabbing Alabama ILB Reuben Foster.
I have always said... Names mean less than positions, but it is becoming alarming how many mocks have the Cardinals taking a QB.
That means it is either well known, or the Cardinals have no interest and have done an excellent job of throwing everyone off the trail of who they really want at 13.
Either way, it is interesting.
