While the Arizona Cardinals didn’t get the win, hell they didn’t even look great on Saturday night, there were some definite positives that came out of the game.
Here are five players that helped their stock after game of three of the Arizona Cardinals preseason.
Chris Hubert - The Cardinals top five wide receivers seem like absolute locks: Larry Fitzgerald, Jaron Brown, John Brown, J.J. Nelson and Chad Williams. The question is whether or not they keep Brittan Golden or one of the other receivers.
One of those other receivers is Hubert, who has been up and down this preseason, but seems to be open quite a bit. He was clearly the player Blaine Gabbert was the most comfortable with and that showed with his performance on Saturday. Does Hubert make the roster? I am not sure, he is definitely a practice squad candidate, but you wonder if after last year and this preseason if he makes it through waivers.
Jeremy Ross - Ross has been in a great battle with Golden and Hubert for that sixth roster spot. He has a catch in every game of the preseason and has looked like a nice veteran weapon who knows and understands his role.
Cap Capi - All Capi does is make plays when he is on the field. He has been one of the better second/third/fourth unit defenders and his youth and active play style would really mesh well with what the Cardinals are building.
Brandon Williams - While Williams roster spot has been all but certain, he had his best showing of his career, even if it was the preseason. His continual growth is important to the Cardinals for 2018 and beyond, but he may be more ready to compete this year than expected.
The Punters - This has been a fierce battle and I think Matt Wile got a nice leg up with that squib onside kick the Cardinals recovered. However, Richie Leone did a nice job of adding some hang time and was 50% in pinning the Bears inside the 20. This will be a tough call, but one the Cardinals need to get right.
What players stock went up for you?
