The 2017 season kicked off the same as it did in 2016. With a loss. Unlike last season, the Cardinals were absolutely man handled in this defeat. The offense looked more anemic than it did in 2016, while the Defense did as good as they could before breaking in the second half.
This is definitely difficult to find a worthy candidate for the ever famous ROTB game ball. So for this week, we will have to lower our ever so lofty expectations to find ourselves an ideal candidate.
Haason Reddick
The rookie linebacker had his ups and downs in the preseason. The same can be said for his regular season debut. He recorded eight tackles, tied for second most on the team. Reddick allowed four completions for only 21 yards. Reddick had Stafford wrapped up for a sack, but Stafford managed to escape his grasp. He was credited with two pressures and four stops.
Justin Bethel
I know what you’re saying. He allowed the two big touchdowns passes to rookie Kenny Golladay. But besides that Bethel held his own. He had four pass breakups on 10 attempts, to go with his touchdown return. I think fans should expect someone who’s going to get beat opposite Peterson on occasion. We don’t have two lockdown corners on the outside.
Antoine Bethea
I will say I was pleased with what I saw. Bethea made several nice hits and a number of crucial tackles. For an older player, I was shocked with how fast he was to get from point a to point b. I wouldn’t rule out a possible depth chart move, however, once Budda Baker starts to understand the scheme more, or, heaven forbid, the team suffers an epic meltdown.
Patrick Peterson
Peterson shadowed Marvin Jones all day, holding him to two catches for 37 yards and a score. The All-Pro continued his stellar play and was easily one of the lone bright spots on a team that was otherwise underwhelming.
So who do you think is deserving of our illustrious ROTB game ball? If you have someone who doesn’t crack this list, be sure to comment who it is.
