The Arizona Cardinals entered week two in an admittedly “must win” situation. The game did not start out that way as they fell behind 10-0 in the first quarter. The Defense held tough, however, allowing three points the final 45 minutes. Palmer and the offense woke up in the fourth quarter mounting their comeback. The team had an opportunity to put the game away in the fourth quarter, but a missed field goal by Phil Dawson forced OT. He made sure he hit that kick.
There are a number of positives, despite the lackluster performance once again. It’s always easier to find yourself a player of the game after a win, and it’s time to award our ROTB Gameball to one lucky Cardinal.
Last week 175 votes were cast, and 111 went to rookie linebacker Haason Reddick. Who takes it home this week?
The most obvious choice. Nelson had a career game, hauling in five passes for 120 yards and our lone touchdown. Nelson is on pace for a 1300 yard season and 16 TDs. Obviously, those numbers are not going to be reached, particularly when John Brown comes back, but he’s been the Cardinals most reliable receiver through two games.
CJ2K looked like the teams best running back. He found holes and took advantage of defensive lapses. He carried the rock 11 times for 44 yards and was a key component in blocking for Palmer. His usage should continue to grow as the season wears on.
Mathieu hasn’t looked like himself the last two games, but he made key plays at key moments. He rushed the passer four times, recording three pressures, a catch for 14 yards, and a 9.7 passer rating
Jones racked up two sacks and five hurries. He forced a fumble on Jacoby Brissett as well. Some fans were upset at him last week, saying he disappeared too often. Both he and Golden lead the NFL in total pressures.
So who shall we give to illustrious ROTB game ball to? Be sure to vote in the poll.
