Arizona Cardinals Q&A heading into the Detroit Lions game

Answering your questions heading into the Detroit Lions game.

NFL: Chicago Bears at Arizona Cardinals Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports

What I hope is a new weekly feature is here. A question and answer session with you, the fans.

We had some great questions this week that will help us get ready for the Arizona Cardinals game against the Detroit Lions.

Question

Last year, Anquan Boldin was the far away leader in TD grabs on the team with 8, as many as Golden Tate and Marvin Jones combined. With Boldin gone, who seems likely in the Lions' WR corps to take his place as a power receiver down in deep?

RotB: Boldin is a dominant force inside the redzone, we know that from his time as an Arizona Cardinal. What the Lions have is a plethora of good weapons, similar to the Patriots when they are without Rob Gronkowski. It lacks a dominant element and as good as Stafford is, he is no Tom Brady. The Lions will need a group effort to replace Boldin inside the 20, but they also will need Eric Ebron, the young tight end who was drafted before Aaron Donald. He is only 24 heading into his fourth season, I wouldn’t be surprised if he tied his career mark of seven touchdowns in 2017. At least, that is what the Lions and their fans are hoping.

Question

Year after year the Lions' roster is loaded with talent, but it never seems like all the talent translates into wins. Why will this year be different?

RotB: Under Jim Caldwell the Lions are 27-21 and have made two playoff appearances. Meaning he has as many playoff appearances as Bruce Arians with Arizona. The difference? The Lions are not a fun team to watch. They are not high powered offensively and Caldwell makes watching paint dry enjoyable. The Lions are in the best place they have been in some time. Maybe Caldwell is their Whisenhunt and they are geared up for the next guy, but you have to appreciate what they have done. All of that being said, I don’t see a team who is a playoff team with their holes on defense. They lack too much up front, at least in my opinion, to be more than a wild card contender... Which makes this game even more important.

Question

What was the reason Cap Capi was not kept on the team after a great preseaon showing?

RotB: This is a question we will likely never get a clear response to, but the reality is Capi finds himself on his fourth practice squad in his career and he is just an enigma. He is a relentless worker, but he is undersized and maybe positionless. He was a great preseason player, but no one, Cardinals included, have seen enough to make him more than that.

Question

What are the chances of David Johnson winning the MVP and offensive player of the year?

RotB: Only Le’Veon Bell has better odds at this point than David Johnson as the top non-QB MVP favorite. I think Johnson has an NFL record setting type of season, that will at worst be the offensive player of the year, and if the Cardinals find their way to the playoffs, a definite MVP case.
