The Arizona Cardinals will be looking to the draft to answer a myriad of questions, but the biggest is obviously the quarterback position.
That’s why nailing the coaching hire is so important.
The Cardinals are down to three candidates coming back for second interviews: Pat Shurmur, Steve Wilks and everyone’s favorite, Mike Munchak.
The question is, who would you want to help develop that quarterback?
The Cardinals need to nail the coaching position just as much as they need to nail the quarterback position in the draft or free agency.
They need a nice mix of young and innovative, they need adaptability and flexibility. They also need to make sure they have the staff in place to cater to a young quarterback.
That’s why this hire is so important and the more I think about it, the more I learn towards Shurmur.
I like the idea of Wilks and John DeFilippo quite a bit, but I worry a strong season from the Cardinals on offensive paves the way for him to be a head coach.
Shurmur gives you more than a season, he guarantees you a coach for that quarterback (good or bad) for his entire tenure.
I like Wilks + DeFilippo a lot. I just know a home run means you only get a year of DeFilippo
Also, Shurmur may be bringing along Vic Fangio… That’s not too bad.
