No voice has been as well known in the NFL Draft community or as important to fans as that of ESPN’S Mel Kiper Jr.
So, when he publishes his first mock draft of the year, everyone is clicking on that article.
15. Arizona Cardinals- Josh Jackson, CB, Iowa
This is a tough spot because the Cardinals don’t have a coach yet. Could they target a quarterback? It’s probably safe to say that Drew Stanton and Blaine Gabbert will have some company in the QB room, but that also could come in free agency. Arizona has been looking for years for a corner to play opposite of superstar Patrick Peterson, and Jackson is a good fit. He was phenomenal in his lone season as a starter, picking off eight passes, including three in the Hawkeyes’ win over Ohio State. He has great length at 6-1 and has long arms. The question will be his straight-line speed, so his 40-yard dash time will be big. But Jackson was the best corner in college football in 2017.
This is not the first time Kiper has mocked the Cardinals a corner in his first mock of the year, in fact, last year Kiper mocked Teez Tabor, an eventual second round pick of the Detroit Lions to the Cardinals with his first mock of 2017.
Jackson would undoubtedly be a nice fit, from a positional need standpoint, but there are questions on his athletic profile and how well he will test.
It was what drove Tabor down the draft board as well.
As for the quarterbacks, they go:
Josh Allen, Cle (1)
Josh Rosen, NYG (2)
Sam Darnold, Den (5)
Baker Mayfield, Wash (13)
No Lamar Jackson in round one, so we’ll see how that goes.
What do you think of the Jackson pick?
