The Cardinals lost an intriguing practice squad prospect.

The Arizona Cardinals lost a practice squad player, as the Dallas Cowboys have poached newly signed practice squad safety Darian Thompson onto their active roster.

The move will open up a practice squad spot, maybe Deatrick Nichols, for the Cardinals, while also helping the Cowboys find a new safety to help their hurting defense.

Thompson started all 16 games in 2017, finishing with 75 tackles, six pass deflections, and an interception.

For the Cardinals, the loss of Thompson may mean Nichols, or even a player like Trent Sherfield if the Cardinals bring on a Rishard Matthews type at wide receiver.

Maybe the Cardinals go out and take a look at some available free agents as well.

While Thompson had only a week in the desert, it will be interesting to see how he plays moving over to Dallas, as he was a former third round pick with plenty of starting experience.

For the Cardinals, I am interested how they fill this practice squad spot since Thompson was one of the higher profile practice squad signings I can remember since D.J. Swearinger.
