Cardinals 2019 Off-Season Plan V. 3

I was emailing back and forth this week with one of my favorite Cardinals’ fans (Vince from PA) and he came up with what I consider to be a fascinating GM/HC combo—-Eliot Wolf (Cleveland Browns’ Assistant GM, son of HOF GM Ron Wolf) as GM with Mike McCarthy (Green Bay Packers Head Coach) as head coach.

Of course, Wolf and McCarthy spent well over a decade together in Green Bay—-and they joyously sipped some sweet ambrosia from the Lombardi Trophy back in 2011.

Their familiarity is quite a plus.

Wolf and McCarthy’s primary mission will be to change the growing perception around the league that the Cardinals mistreat their players.

McCarthy brings most of his current staff with him. He is open to adding Todd Bowles as the DC and if Bowles is game, the deal is made. Otherwise, McCarthy brings his current DC, Mike Pettine, with him. Both Bowles and Pettine run the 34 base (back to basics, baby!).

Here are their moves:

  1. Trade: CB Patrick Peterson to Green Bay for CB Josh Jackson and the Packers’ 2019 1st round pick.
  2. Free Agent Signings:
  • G Ramón Foster (PIT)
  • WR Chris Hogan (NE)
  • WR Randall Cobb (GB)
  • CB Kareem Jackson (HOU)
  • CB Buster Skrine (NYJ)
  • S Clayton Geathers (IND)
  • LB Jordan Hicks (PHI)
  • RB Javorius Allen (BAL)
  • T LaAdrian Waddle (NE)
  • G Eric Kush (CHI)

3. In-House Free Agents Signings:

  • DT Rodney Gunter
  • DE Zach Moore
  • LB Jeremy Cash (RFA)

4. 2019 NFL Draft:

  • TE Noah Fant 6-4, 235, Iowa (R2)
  • S Taylor Rapp 6-0, 212, Washington (R3)

I think it would be good this time around to bring in an experienced head coach. I don’t think Mike McCarthy gets enough credit for the success he’s had in Green Bay. And I love the thought of adding a young, bright GM in Eliot Wolf.
