That’s what I try to remind everyone as this is happening, don’t fixate on the names, because even though we know who is and isn’t in the draft, we have no idea how it will unfold.
Last year the middle linebacker position was mocked in a myriad of ways to the Cardinals and they ended up taking Haason Reddick.
This year, it’ll be quarterbacks and wide receivers who seem to garner the most attention.
That’s why, Mel Kiper’s second mock draft of the season is fun to read, but as always must be taken with caution:
15. Arizona Cardinals
*Calvin Ridley, WR, Alabama
I love this fit for both sides. Take a look at the Cardinals’ depth chart from the end of the season. Larry Fitzgerald will be 35 when the 2018 season begins. John Brown and Jaron Brown are free agents. They need a No. 2 receiver. Ridley is far and away the best wideout in this draft class, and getting him at No. 15 is good value. He had 19 career touchdown catches with inconsistent quarterback play. Arizona also needs a quarterback, of course, but I think new coach Steve Wilks & Co. are more likely to go the veteran route. But watch out for the Cardinals if one of the top four QBs falls.
Well, Ridley has been mocked as high as six in some mocks, so can the seemingly unanimous top wide receiver really fall to 15?
Ridley would be a great fit for Arizona, pair him with Larry Fitzgerald and David Johnson and any new quarterback will have a nice set of weapons at his disposal.
This is how the top 14 for Kiper unfolded:
- Browns - Josh Allen
- Giants - Saquon Barkley
- Colts - Bradley Chubb
- Browns - Minkah Fitzpatrick
- Broncos - Sam Darnold
- Jets - Baker Mayfield
- Buccaneers - Quenton Nelson
- Bears - Tremaine Edmunds
- 49ers - Denzel Ward
- Raiders - Roquan Smith
- Dolphins - Josh Rosen
- Bengals - Kolton Miller
- Redskins - Vita Vea
- Packers - Marcus Davenport
Did Kiper make the right pick for the Arizona Cardinals?
