Post Super Bowl 2018 NFL Mock Draft

Four rounds of picks for the 2018 NFL Mock Draft.

NCAA Football: Senior Bowl John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

This is my mock draft for the post Super Bowl. There are some surprises, as I mocked a quarterback in the first round, and I would be beside myself if I didn’t include the reason for that quarterback. Enjoy.

1st Pick - Cleveland Browns (0-16) Lamar Jackson - Quarterback

2nd Pick - New York Giants (3-13) Roquan Smith - Inside Linebacker

3rd Pick - Indianapolis Colts (4-12) Saquon Barkley - Running Back

4th Pick - Cleveland Browns (from Houston Texans) (4-12) Bradley Chubb - Defensive End

5th Pick - Denver Broncos (5-11) Josh Rosen - Quarterback

6th Pick - New York Jets (5-11) Minkah Fitzpatrick - Cornerback

7th Pick - Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5-11) Quenton Nelson - Offensive Guard

12th Pick - Cincinnati Bengals (7-9) Maurice Hurst - Defensive Tackle

13th Pick - Washington Redskins (7-9) Courtland Sutton - Wide Receiver

14th Pick - Green Bay Packers (7-9) Derrius Guice - Running Back

15th Pick - Arizona Cardinals (8-8)
Baker Mayfield - Quarterback
Oklahoma - Redshirt Senior
6’1’’, 218 Pounds

This is a great spot to grab yourself a franchise leading quarterback, no matter how cocky Baker Mayfield is, he is still a unique talent, and plays unselfishly. A small quarterback with a slender frame, he possesses the quickness to move around the pocket, and seems to have great pocket awareness. He almost willed himself into a National Championship. If the Cardinals need an easy quarterback prospect, this is it, as Baker Mayfield looks like someone who wouldn’t have trouble inside a pro-style offense. Steve Wilks needs to crown a quarterback, someone that the franchise could lean on, and that’s why I chose Baker. No to Josh Allen because he seems inconsistent on long throws, Sam Darnold struggles against top competition, and Mason Rudolph doesn’t have great pocket presence. Mayfield is of course my guy. Oh, and did I mention he won the Heisman? Check, check.

46th Pick - Cincinnati Bengals (7-9) Mike McGlinchey - Offensive Tackle

47th Pick - Arizona Cardinals (8-8) Justin Reid - Cornerback Stanford - Junior 6’1’’, 202 Pounds

This is a guy who has ball-hawking abilities, playing at either safety spots, and quite a bit at corner. If the Cardinals were to take a chance on Justin Reid, it would be for that other cornerback spot. When Malik Hooker came out, I bragged about his ability to snatch the ball from receivers, but Hooker never had the tackling ability of Reid. That’s what Reid is, he has great abilities to cover man-on-man or in zone coverage, and it doesn’t matter which one is which. In his first year, you don’t even have to throw Reid out there on an island, he can play nickel to perfection, and can be a special teams demon. I’d throw him out there immediately, let him test his metal, and get yourself some easy picks with Patrick Peterson on the other side.

48th Pick - Los Angeles Chargers (9-7) Tim Settle - Defensive Tackle Virginia Tech - Redshirt Sophomore 6’3’’, 328 Pounds

79th Pick - Arizona Cardinals (8-8) Auden Tate - Wide Receiver Florida State - Junior 6’5’’, 225 Pounds

Remember Tate? Well, I mocked him before as a first round pick, but in this mock, he falls to the third round for what I assume is a great grab. We need receivers in the receiving room, and that’s not an exaggeration. Just depending on Larry Fitzgerald gets you into trouble, as teams can key on Fitz. Finding a predecessor is necessary for the Cardinals, and that’s why I went away from the general ‘Cardinals’ wisdom. What’s that wisdom? I drafted two underclassmen. Auden Tate in particular is a jump-ball kind of guy, and I want to attach him to Baker Mayfield’s hip. Yes, Tate has some aspects of his game (seperation, route running) that needs improvement, but I believe in what Tate can be. His raw ability puts him above many others.

80th Pick - Houston Texans (from Seattle Seahawks) (9-7) DeShon Elliott - Strong Safety Texas - Junior 6’2’’, 205 Pounds

81st Pick - Dallas Cowboys (9-7) Anthony Miller - Wide Receiver Memphis - Redshirt Senior 5’11’’, 190 Pounds

82nd Pick - Detroit Lions (9-7) Sony Michel - Running Back Georgia - Senior 5’11’’, 222 Pounds

83rd Pick - Baltimore Ravens (9-7) Michael Gallup - Wide Receiver Colorado State - Redshirt Senior 6’1’’, 195 Pounds

85th Pick - Carolina Panthers (from Buffalo Bills) (9-7) Trevon Young - Defensive End Louisville - Redshirt Senior 6’4’’, 255 Pounds

86th Pick - Kansas City Chiefs (10-6) Kyzir White - Cornerback West Virginia - Senior 6’2’’, 218 Pounds

87th Pick - Los Angeles Rams (11-5) Duke Ejiofor - Defensive End Wake Forest - Redshirt Senior 6’4’’, 270 Pounds

90th Pick - Atlanta Falcons (10-6) Da’Shawn Hand - Defensive Tackle Alabama - Senior 6’4’’, 282 Pounds

91st Pick - New Orleans Saints (11-5) Deontay Burnett - Wide Receiver Southern California - Junior 6’0’’, 170 Pounds

92nd Pick - Pittsburgh Steelers (13-3) Malik Jefferson - Outside Linebacker Texas - Junior 6’3’’, 240 Pounds

93rd Pick - Jacksonville Jaguars (10-6) Quenton Meeks - Cornerback Stanford - Redshirt Junior 6’2’’, 201 Pounds

94th Pick - Buffalo Bills (from Philadelphia Eagles) (13-3) Marcus Allen - Free Safety Penn State - Senior 6’2’’, 202 Pounds

95th Pick - Minnesota Vikings (13-3) D.J. Moore - Wide Receiver Maryland - Junior 5’11’’, 215 Pounds

96th Pick - New England Patriots (13-3) Nick Nelson - Cornerback Wisconsin - Junior 5’11’’, 207 Pounds

97th Pick - Arizona Cardinals (via Compensatory) (8-8) Allen Lazard - Wide Receiver Iowa State - Senior 6’5’’, 223 Pounds

What? Another receiver you say? Yes, I do, because getting both a Allen Lazard and Auden Tate gives Baker Mayfield tall trees to throw to, and begins the reconstruction of the receivers room. Allen Lazard and Auden Tate could be the receivers to steer the ship once Fitz leaves, and we become prepared immediately for the future. If you throw the ball up, Lazard will go up and snatch it.

98th Pick - Houston Texans (via Compensatory) (4-12) Bradley Bozeman - Center Alabama - Redshirt Senior 6’5’’, 314 Pounds

99th Pick - Cincinnati Bengals (via Compensatory) (7-9) Holton Hill - Cornerback Texas - Junior 6’3’’, 205 Pounds

135th Pick - Arizona Cardinals (via Compensatory) (8-8) Scott Quessenberry - Offensive Guard UCLA - Senior 6’4’’, 315 Pounds

An offensive lineman finally goes in the draft for the Cardinals with Scott Quessenberry. He’s a pass-first offensive lineman, with an exciting ability to play multiple positions (both guard positions and center), and would fall right to us in the fourth round. The Cardinals could protect its investment with Baker Mayfield needing more time in the pocket. No more revolving door at right guard, it’s time to settle the position.
