The 49ers, after trading a second round pick to the New England Patriots for the young quarterback, have made Garoppolo the highest paid player in the NFL on a per season average basis.
The 49ers and QB Jimmy Garoppolo have agreed to a five-year, $137.5 million contract, source says. The biggest deal in NFL history on a average-per-year basis.— Mike Garafolo (@MikeGarafolo) February 8, 2018
This is a huge move for the division, as it either is going to keep the 49ers in a good spot to be competitive within the NFC West and possibly the NFC moving forward.
If it doesn’t work, it could be a disastrous contract, but the way Garoppolo played in his short time in the Bay area gave the 49ers confidence to make this move.
Garoppolo was 5-0 as a starter, threw for 1,560 yards, seven touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 67.4%.
The Cardinals need for a quarterback becomes even bigger now, as the NFC West is loaded with you, likely long term options at the quarterback position… and the Cardinals.
