Arizona Cardinals sign Bene Benwikere to one-year contract

The Arizona Cardinals have made a move at cornerback.

The Arizona Cardinals have been working to find a solution at the cornerback spot opposite Patrick Peterson for a number of years.

It appears in the 2018 season they will again be looking for an answer.

The first signing, which doesn’t mean the first option, will be veteran cornerback Bene Benwikere (26), from the team:

Benwikere (6-0, 195) has played in 39 games (14 starts) with Carolina (2014-16) and Dallas (2017) in his NFL career and has 111 tackles (91 solo), two interceptions, 22 passes defensed, one sack, four fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles. The 26-year old Benwikere entered the league with Carolina as a fifth-round selection (148th overall) in the 2014 NFL Draft out of San Jose State. He played his first three years in the league with Carolina where he appeared in 27 games (10 starts). Benwikere played in 12 games with Dallas last year after being acquired a trade with Cincinnati at the end of the preseason.

Benwikere is a bench player who knows Steve Wilks and Al Holcomb’s system. He has experience starting if needed, but that is not what he does. He is typically a guy who can come in and play in certain packages and situations and has improved in doing it, from Pro Football Focus:
