Last week, I walked you through all of the NFL Scouting Combine prop bets, and told you where to put your money down. Now that testing has wrapped up, let’s see how we did...
Bet: Saquon Barkley O/U 4.37 40 yard dash
I told you that this would be close, but to take the over here. Barkley ran an official 4.40 second 40.
Bet: Barkley O/U 41.3” vertical jump
I thought this was too close to call and suggested to steer clear of this bet. Barkley touched 41” so congrats if you didn’t listen to my advice and took the under.
Bet: Derrius Guice O/U 4.38 40 yard
Taking the over here was a gimme putt for me. No way the LSU running back was going to be as fast as Barkley. Guice checked in at 4.49 seconds.
Bet: Lamar Jackson O/U 4.35 40 yard dash
I took the over, but Jackson did not run.
Bets: Minkah Fitzpatrick O/U 4.42 40 yard dash, O/U 37.3” vertical
My suggestion was to stay away again here, but you won if you took the over in the 40 (4.46) and the under in the vert (33”).
Bet: Calvin Ridley O/U 4.42 40 yard dash
Another “too close to call” recommendation, and I was right: Ridley ran a 4.43.
Bets: Vita Vea O/U 32.5” vertical, O/U 4.90 40 yard dash
If you followed my lead and took the over on the 40 it was easy money. Vea came up lame after running a 5.10 and never attempted the jumps.
Bet: Derwin James O/U 38.5” vertical
The over was the right call here as James tapped 40” on his best try Monday.
Bet: Donte Jackson O/U 4.28 40 yard dash
This was set too low. I told you to take the over, and Jackson indeed clocked in over at 4.32.
Bet: Tony Brown O/U 4.39 40 yard dash
As I mentioned last week, Brown ran 4.35 in high school, so that’s why I took the under. On Monday he matched that 4.35.
Bet: Marcus Davenport O/U 34.2” vertical
This was my first miss of the weekend. I felt confident in the over, but Davenport only reached 33.5” on Sunday.
NFL Combine Record Props
I bet “no” on all of these so let’s hope you followed suit.
Bet: Will John Ross’s 4.22 40-yard dash record be broken?
The fastest 40 time this year was a 4.32. More on that in a few.
Bet: Will Stephen Paea’s 49-rep bench press record be broken?
Harrison Phillips did 42 reps to lead all contestants.
Bet: Will Chris Conley’s 45” vertical jump record be broken?
Penn State tight end Mike Gesicki and Florida State linebacker Matthew Thomas set the pace at 41.5” in the vert.
Bet: Will Bryon Jones’ 12’3” broad jump record be broken?
Denzel Ward led the way this year at 11’4”, nearly a foot shy of Jones’ mark.
Bet: Will Shelton Gibson’s 10.71 60-yard shuttle record be broken?
I didn’t make a call on this test, but as of Monday afternoon, Texas Tech’s Dylan Cantrell had this year’s top time at 10.85.
Bovada Prop Bets
Bet: Fastest 40 Yard Dash by any player O/U 4.29
I said “over” and again, the best time this year was 4.32.
Bet: Fastest 40 Yard Dash will be? Offense/Defense
If you listened and took “defense,” you win. The 4.32 40s this year came from cornerbacks Donte Jackson, Denzel Ward and Parry Nickerson.
Bet: Highest Vertical jump by any player O/U 42.5”
I recommended under, and as noted earlier, the top mark was 41.5”.
Bet: Most Bench Presses by any player O/U 39
Over was the correct play here as Phillips and Vea both topped 39.
Bet: Position of Player to record fastest 40 Yard Dash - Receiver, Defensive Back, Running Back
I predicted DB, and even named Jackson, Ward and Tony Brown as the guys who would do it. Two out of three ain’t bad.
Bet: Who will have a faster 40 Yard Dash Time? Saquon Barkley or Lamar Jackson
Jackson spoiled our fun by electing not to run.
Bet: Rich Eisen 40 Yard Dash Time O/U 6.05
We wanted the under here and we got it. Eisen ran 5.97, just 12 hundredths of a second slower than Oklahoma tackle Orlando Brown Jr.
Final Tally
Hopefully you bet with me this year and didn’t fade my advice. If you took the same bets I took, and avoided the ones I avoided, you batted 16 for 17. Next year, we’ll go for that perfect record.
