The talk of the offseason, training camp and the preseason will be about the Arizona Cardinals starting quarterback.
No, not Sam Bradford, but instead the opportunity of Josh Rosen starting.
It has been a hot conversation since the Cardinals made the move up to 10 to draft the UCLA quarterback.
On Chris Wesseling’s Around the NFL Podcast from NFL.com, Steve Wyche wasn’t afraid to make his prediction:
“I’m fully expecting Josh Rosen to win this job. And I’m fully expecting the guy who has been the D.B. Cooper of fantastic contracts to be holding that clipboard for $15M on the sideline”
For those of you not familair with the D.B. Cooper reference, this is a brief bio from Wikipedia:
D. B. Cooper is a media epithet popularly used to refer to an unidentified man who hijacked a Boeing 727 aircraft in the airspace between Portland, Oregon, and Seattle, Washington, on November 24, 1971. He extorted $200,000 in ransom (equivalent to $1,210,000 in 2017) and parachuted to an uncertain fate.
So, what Wyche is saying is that Bradford has stolen money from a number of teams and keeps getting paid despite little return on investment from the teams.
In fact, Bradford is the 22nd highest paid player in NFL history, while he can move into the top 15 of all-time after this season.
More importantly, Wyche sees Rosen as the real winner of this and the Cardinals the bigger winner. They’ll have their quarterback of the future and he will be good enough to beat out Sam Bradford to do so.
It is a good listen, check it out.
