With the 2018 offseason workouts about to get underway for the 2018 Arizona Cardinals, there is one question that lingers over all the rest.
Will Phil Dawson be the Arizona Cardinals kicker in 2018?
Obviously there are bigger questions, but Dawson was money to end the 2017 season and has been one of the better kickers in the NFL for longer than some of the rookies have been alive.
Yet, his massive salary, $3.5 million, and age 43, makes him a potential cut if someone can play to the same effect that Dawson has.
Enter Matthew McCrane.
Matthew McCrane, K, 5-10, 165, Kansas St.
From Cincy Jungle
Most accurate K in Kansas St. history. Great accuracy from short distance, making 95% of his field goal attempts under 40 yards, and 99% of his extra points. Made 63% of his attempts from 50+ yards, going 5 for 8 from that range in his career.
McCrane is a consistent weapon from inside 50 and does a great job on kick offs as well.
And his cost would be a fraction of Dawson’s, Jake Elliot cost the Eagles $550k last year.
If McCrane performs well throughout the summer, should he be the Arizona Cardinals kicker on opening day?
