Week 6 2019 NFL Power Rankings: The Patriots are on a historic defensive run

NFL: New England Patriots at Miami Dolphins Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Patriots as the lone undefeated team in the AFC is no surprise. They have the greatest coach and quarterback in NFL history on their side.

Yet, their wins are so convincing because of how great their defense is this year. They are on a trajectory rarely seen:

While I understand their wins come against five opponents who have a combined 5-18 record, those numbers are still absurd. They are first in total yards, first in passing defense and fourth in rushing defense.

They have created another juggernaut.

Of course we can’t leave out the other undefeated in the San Francisco 49ers, who have to be mentioned because they are the only other undefeated team.

Let’s take a look at our Week 6 2019 NFL Power Rankings.

  1. New England Patriots (5-0)
  2. San Francisco 49ers (4-0)
  3. Kansas City Chiefs (4-1)
  4. Green Bay Packers (4-1)
  5. New Orleans Saints (4-1)
  6. Seattle Seahawks (4-1)
  7. Buffalo Bills (4-1)
  8. Carolina Panthers (3-2)
  9. Houston Texans (3-2)
  10. Baltimore Ravens (3-2)
  11. Detroit Lions (2-1-1)
  12. Philadelphia Eagles (3-2)
  13. Los Angeles Rams (3-2)
  14. Dallas Cowboys (3-2)
  15. Chicago Bears (3-2)
  16. Oakland Raiders (3-2)
  17. Minnesota Vikings (3-2)
  18. Indianapolis Colts (3-2)
  19. Jacksonville Jaguars (2-3)
  20. Cleveland Browns (2-3)
  21. Los Angeles Chargers (2-3)
  22. New York Giants (2-3)
  23. Tennessee Titans (2-3)
  24. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-3)
  25. Denver Broncos (1-4)
  26. Pittsburgh Steelers (1-4)
  27. Atlanta Falcons (1-4)
  28. Arizona Cardinals (1-3-1) We will find out quite a bit about the Cardinals this week. They won a game they should win, but it was a road game against a desperate team. Now, they get a terrible Falcons defense, but the Cardinals defense is bordering on horrid, so first to 50 wins?
  29. Cincinnati Bengals (0-5)
  30. New York Jets (0-4)
  31. Miami Dolphins (0-4)
  32. Washington Redskins

The Skins are the worst team in the NFL right now. They have already fired their coach, there is a controversy over who they should start at quarterback, and they still can’t get their best player into the building.

Things are bad.
