The NFL Draft has not played out as well as the Arizona Cardinals had hoped at the inside linebacker position.

So, when the team added another in free agency, with the pick up of Jordan Hicks, it was bittersweet.

The bitter part is obviously the moving on from Deone Bucannon, someone who Arizona Cardinals fans had longed to see return to his 2015 form. It never happened and the Cardinals needed to move on. Hmm, moving on.

Alas they moved onto Jordan Hicks, who Pro Football Focus has labeled as one of the most underrated signings of the 2019 offseason.

From PFF:

Jordan Hicks to the Arizona Cardinals

The deal: 4 years, $36 million, $12 million guaranteed

Why it’s underrated: Injuries are the obvious reason why Hicks’ deal paled in comparison to Kwon Alexander’s, Anthony Barr’s, and C.J. Mosley’s contracts, but when he’s been on the field, he’s been the best of the bunch. Even after his Achilles tear, Hicks was the highest-graded of the group this past season on 775 snaps. He has all of 25 missed tackles for his entire career — a figure Alexander has topped in single seasons — and he has proven well in coverage, something vitally important in today’s NFL for a linebacker.”

Hicks will hopefully finally give the Cardinals back the inside linebacker duo we have been waiting for since Daryl Washington and Karlos Dansby.

If Hicks and Reddick can give the Cardinals 80% of that in hear one, then the Cardinals will get everything and more they had hoped for.

Pro Football Focus likes what they did.
