The Arizona Cardinals are desperate for help at a number of positions heading into the 2019 offseason.

Two of the most important positions they need help at are along the offensive line, for the 31st consecutive year since moving to Arizona, and at linebacker, which has been a thorn in the side of GM Steve Keim since he took over in 2013.

The Athletic ranked their 50 best free agents heading into free agency, if you have a subscription take a look.

If you don’t and only care about the Cardinals, well you are in luck.

They have the Arizona Cardinals getting two of the top 50 free agents in the NFL at two of the biggest need positions the Cardinals have.

From The Athletic:

Kwon Alexander: Arizona Cardinals

Off-ball linebacker is a need for them, and the Cardinals could find a young player with some upside in Alexander. He’s only 25 and has produced 8.4 tackles per game over the past three seasons, good enough for eight-best in the league. The issue has been durability. Alexander has missed 18 games in his four-year NFL career.

There is no questioning Alexander’s talent, it just seems like at a position where you have struggled so much to field a quality player for 16 games, you may not want to take a chance on someone who is often injured.

I mean, if you give the Cardinals one often injured player it would be doubtful to give them two, right?

Ja’Wuan James: Arizona Cardinals

Whether it’s Kyler Murray (it’s gonna be Kyler Murray) or Josh Rosen at quarterback, the Cardinals need to upgrade their offensive line. Durability has been an issue with James (he’s missed 18 games in four NFL seasons), but he can at least give Arizona competency at right tackle.

Never mind.

Now, to be fair, both players are excellent football players when on the field. They would also both come discounted, at least according to the Spotrac Market Value sheet, which has James worth $7 million a year and Alexander at around $10 million a year.

If they were to net James for a 4 year $28 million and Alexander at 4 years and $40 million, that would be two young, talented players on relatively good deals.

It also would give them enough money to continue to sign another big name like Rodger Saffold at guard, or maybe a lesser guard like Bryan Witzmann, then come back and grab a a Timmy Jernigan or Corey Liuget along the defensive line.

How would you grade the Cardinals if they were to sign Alexander and James in free agency?
