It is all about value at this point.
The Arizona Cardinals picked Deionte Thompson, an All-American safety out of Alabama with the first pick in the fifth round.
The 6-1 195lbs Thompson is a true single high, center field safety, with ball hawking ability. He is a bit more of a thumper than former Arizona Cardinal Rashad Johnson, but think of him as the same type of player.
The biggest concern with Thompson is health.
There was talk that Thompson could be a first round pick during the middle of the college season, but he was knicked up down the stretch and his slim frame and hair on fire style makes him a bit of a worrisome prospect.
However, watching Thompson play safety is a treat.
A true two-way safety, with the ability to lock down in pass coverage, as well as drop down and thump in the run game, Thompson was the quarterback on the Bama defense.
There is also a red flag of a knee issue with Thompson, but at this area, it is too good of a chance to pass up.
Deionte Thompson was off several teams boards because of a degenerative knee condition. It explains his fall. https://t.co/NjIBcA4z2R
