With free agency nearly a month into the books, the fact that a player that had one of his best professional seasons and fits a huge need for the Arizona Cardinals is still available in Rodney Gunter is a bit surprising.
You see, the Arizona Cardinals have one of the worst defensive line units on paper in the NFL.
Gunter, a fourth round pick in 2015, had a career year racking up 4.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and 44 total tackles, while adding nine quarterback hits and 11 tackles for loss.
The Cardinals need a player like Gunter to round out what would likely be a stronger defense line than in 2019.
So what’s the hold up?
It seems like the number Gunter was expecting in free agency and the number the Cardinals have offered are quite different.
Knowing how Steve Keim and company work, you wonder now if that offer is still available or if they have since removed that offer and that is the reason that the Cardinals sit without having filled out their defensive line.
With the Packers now courting Gunter, we’ll see what the Cardinals decide to do to fill out the defensive line.
Even the addition of a Quinnen Williams doesn’t change the fact the Cardinals still need more along the line.
Plus, would it not be great to actually have a talented draft class with a number of second contract players making an impact on the Cardinals roster rather than... the normal?
