The Arizona Cardinals and Kliff Kingsbury declined to comment on the status of DE Darius Philon when Kingsbury met with the media this afternoon.
Kliff Kingsbury on DE Darius Philon, who was arrested Friday for aggravated assault: "We are aware of the situation and the serious allegations. It's been reported to the league, so we will allow that process, from a legal perspective and the league standpoint, to move forward."— Kyle Odegard (@Kyle_Odegard) August 10, 2019
This mirrors the release status of Robert Nkemdiche, who was also cut at a similar time post-practice on a Saturday without any media warning whatsoever.
We are releasing Darius Philon.— Arizona Cardinals (@AZCardinals) August 10, 2019
Philon signed a 2 year $10 million contract with the team, so they will take on $3 million in dead money this year and $2 million in dead money next year unless they are able to somehow recoup money (unlikely at this point given the cut, however.)
The fact that Philon, Nkemdiche and Harrison have all been outright released from the team rather than put onto an exempt list certainly sends a message to the team, and the community of Arizona, as a whole.
