Is Kyler "My Hero"?!

It just hit me… I finished a week of moving, and was quietly enjoying a Friday early evening with the misses - and the feint mental image of the Foo Fighters starts playing in the back of my head. The beating drums, a little snarling guitar, before the power chords kick in and the sound wall starts on "My Hero".

Coach Kilmer had been overthrown, the boys were there to play on their own terms, and Mox and the gang fired up their version of the Air Raid.

The oopty-oop, if you recall, is putting 4 WR on one side of the field, so you can force single coverage on the other side - in this case, Tweeder.

Coach Fast and Furious organizes the squad, declares they are playing no huddle, and Dawson's Creek will call plays from the line.

This was peak late 90's early 2000's entertainment for me, and pre-greatest-show-on-turf.

There's this cut in the scene where a dude in the crowd is counting out WR's on both his hands, because he forgets the thumb counts as a digit - and like has a puzzled look on his face.

But - what hit me wasn't how much I love that movie, and the montage football elements in the scene.

What hit me is this is what may be ostensibly coming to the field in 2019 for us. An expectation that our Cardinals will play fast and loose (furious maybe?!), wreckless abandon, and just out-quick and out-gimmick the opponents.

And now, every time Kyler takes the field - those same drums are going to start playing, same song is going to run through my mind, and I hope we somehow have a hook and ladder play ready for Larry to lateral back to Mason Cole - who will drag 7 NFL players into the endzone to win on the last play of the game.

It's a dream. Just a dream. I just want there to be something positive coming out of this team this year.

Do yourself a favor, and walk back down memory lane with a watch of Varsity Blues. It's in no way a good movie, but it's a GREAT bad movie.

And, if anything, it's a movie-based success story for an unproven offensive scheme being used effectively to win a football game.

Van Der Beek won a Teen Choice award for this! It's a fact! He's also 6' tall, so it's a close match to Kyler!

Oh, and here's Foo Fighters if you want to do some daydreamy visualisations yourself:
