According to Arizona Sports Insider John Gambadoro, the Arizona Cardinals are close to signing right tackle Jordan Mills. Current Cardinal right Marcus Gilbert, who was acquired via a trade with the Steelers last March, suffered an undisclosed knee injury last Thursday in practice.
Following the injury, the Cardinals had to scramble to get recently acquired waiver pick Justin Murray up to speed prior to Sunday’s game against Detroit. Murray, not surprisingly, struggled early on against the Lions but settled in as the game progressed. Head coach Kliff Kingsbury has already ruled out Gilbert this week against the Baltimore Ravens.
Jordan Mills is a former fifth round pick of the Chicago Bears and has been manning the right tackle position for the Buffalo Bills for the past three seasons.
Any lengthly absence to Marcus Gilbert would be a huge blow for a team already thin at offensive tackle and the former Steeler remains their most talented linemen.
Mills, compared to Murray, at least has significant starting experience. He was the starting right tackle during Buffalo’s playoff run in 2017 and blocked for a similar mobile quarterback to Kyler Murray. That being Tyrod Taylor.
Obviously there’s a reason he remains unsigned to this point, as he was cut by the Miami Dolphins (yikes) prior to the start of this year.
Still, some experience is better than no experience.
Stay tuned.
