Another week, another award for Chandler Jones.

This time, he was named NFC Defensive Player of the Year.

From the team:

Arizona Cardinals linebacker Chandler Jones has been named the 2019 NFC Defensive Player of the Year by the NFL Committee of 101.

The 50th annual NFL 101 Awards honor the top offensive player, defensive player and coach of the year in both the NFC and AFC. Winners are selected by balloting of 101 national media members who cover the NFL. Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore was selected as the AFC’s Defensive Player of the Year.

Jones was named first-team All-Pro and selected to his third Pro Bowl after establishing a franchise single-season record with 19.0 sacks to go along with a career-high eight forced fumbles and seven strip sacks in 2019. His 19.0 sacks ranked second in the NFL, his eight forced fumbles tied for the NFL lead and his seven strip sacks led the league.

He had two games of 4.0 sacks this season (Week 7 @ NYG; Week 16 @ SEA), becoming just the third player in NFL history, and first since Hall of Famer Reggie White in 1986, to post 4.0+ sacks in multiple games in a season. Jones was selected as the “NFC Defensive Player of the Week” following each performance and was named the “NFC Defensive Player of the Month” for his play in December.

Jones is the only player in the NFL with 10+ sacks in each of the last five seasons and joined Robert Mathis (19.5 sacks & 10 forced fumbles) as the only players in NFL history with 19.0+ sacks and 8+ forced fumbles in a season.

Since entering the league in 2012, Jones leads the NFL in both sacks (96.0) and forced fumbles (27). Only five players in NFL history had more sacks in their first eight seasons and after recording 13.0+ sacks in each of the last three seasons, only Reggie White (four straight on two separate occasions) had 13.0+ sacks in more consecutive seasons.

Jones becomes the first Cardinals player to win Defensive Player of the Year as part of the NFL 101 Awards since the awards began in 1969.

The 50th annual NFL 101 Awards gala will take place on Saturday, February 29 at the Kansas City Marriott Downtown. As part of the golden anniversary, former award recipients will serve as presenters for each winner at the ceremony.

Congrats to Chandler on a fantastic season.
