Mel Kiper is back on the grind and he doesn’t care that the Arizona Cardinals just re-signed D.J. Humphries.
He’s got an idea for the Arizona Cardinals in his newest 2020 NFL Mock Draft.
In fact, Mock Draft 2.0 for Kiper had the Cardinals flipping sides and from his Mock Draft 1.0 and now grabbing a right tackle.
From E$PN:
8. Arizona Cardinals
Tristan Wirfs, OT, Iowa
This is a really good class for high-end offensive tackles — there could be five or six who go off the board in Round 1. That’s good news for Arizona, which has a hole even after it decided to bring back left tackle D.J. Humphries. Veteran right tackle Marcus Gilbert is set to hit free agency, while Justin Murray, who ended the season as the starter, is a former undrafted free agent who has bounced around the league. Wirfs played primarily on the right side for the Hawkeyes, and he had a dominant career. I expect him to test off the charts at the combine. Offensive Rookie of the Year Kyler Murray had a great first season, but the Cardinals need to add some more infrastructure around him to get Kliff Kingsbury’s offense to the next level.
The Cardinals beef up their offensive line in Kiper’s newest mock and the masses rejoice.
It’ll be interesting with the Humphries news if the Cardinals use a first round pick as well along the offensive line.
However, it’s the old adage that you can never go wrong with drafting offensive line.
Wirfs projects as a good right tackle and this is where the NFL is at this point. Average to good tackles are paid handsomely and drafted in the top 10.
