When you look at the Arizona Cardinals prospect visits you see something interesting. For a team picking in the top eight, now without a second round pick, they have spent a lot of time on prospects projected to go between eight and 72. Sure that is a massive range, but it’s interesting nonetheless.
One name they’ve met with is Denzel Mims, the big and fast wide receiver from Baylor who my buddy Kyle Posey can’t stop raving about.
From Posey:
Mims has elite speed, body control, leaping ability, and all of this translates to the ridiculous catches you see on film. Yes, he ran a limited route tree and must become a more detailed route runner and improve his hands as far as catching at keeping himself clean, but a lot of positives are being ignored from Mims.
When you break down Mims numbers at Baylor and his workout at the combine his prospect spectrum is quite intriguing.
Mims testing numbers at his size puts him in elite company, but he hasn’t shown enough to be that high level.
His high end projects to a Javon Walker type of player. Walker was a Pro Bowl player for the Green Bay Packers who signed a massive contract with the Oakland Raiders and then crapped the bed.
His low end is littered with NFL busts, most notably Stephen Hill is obviously the concern, but Mims was more productive than Hill so that shouldn’t be a huge concern.
We will see where Mims ends up, but he certainly is an intriguing prospect.
