For the Arizona Cardinals the 2020 NFL Draft is about letting things play out in front of them.
After the first two picks, no one really knows what is going on.
With Joe Burrow and Chase Young all but carved in stone with the first and second picks respectively, the Cardinals will wait and see how the next five picks in front of them fall.
Peter King or Pro Football Talk dropped his one and only 2020 NFL Mock Draft on Monday and it has the Arizona Cardinals getting the player many consider the second best defensive player in the draft.
8. Arizona—Isaiah Simmons, defensive player, Clemson
This is a first in Peter King Mock Draft History. I’ve never before labeled a player “defensive player.” Simmons has played strong safety, cornerback, slot corner, inside linebacker and outside linebacker, and he’s likely going to be a hybrid safety/linebacker/edge player in the NFL. Could be an instinctive pass-rusher too, which the Cardinals lack in a big way; he had 23 pressures on 70 pass-rushes. Now, the Cards have other needs, and Simmons doesn’t have a singular position. But he was a great and instinctive college player.
Simmons would offer some versatility on defense, being able to align early on as a strong safety and would be able to fold down in nickel and dime situations. He’d also give the Cardinals a third or even fourth pass rusher at times if Vance Joseph wanted to get creative.
Someone I trust had this to say:
”Have to use him like (Dick) LeBeau used Troy Polamalu or it’s a waste.”
Can you see that usage in Arizona?
