Armchair Scouting: Michael Pittman Jr.

UCLA v. USC

BIO:

Name: Michael Pittman Jr. (Son of former Cardinal Running Back)

Age: 22 (Senior)

Attended: University of Southern California (#6)

COMBINE MEASUREMENTS AND TESTING:

Height: 6’ 4”

Weight: 223 lbs.

Arm Length: 32 1/2”

Hand Size: 9 1/4”

40 Yard Dash: 4.52 seconds

Bench Press: 13 reps

Vertical Jump: 36.5”

Broad Jump: 121”

3 Cone Drill: 6.96 seconds

20 Yard Shuttle: 4.14 seconds

STRENGTHS:

Appealing body control and ball skills, tracks and addresses the ball naturally. Takes advantage of size in downfield and jump ball situations. Moves well for size, long strides covers ground well on vertical route and after the catch. Good use of stiff arm to open up extra yards. Not spectacular but plenty efficient as a route runner. Experienced and works well from the slot.

CONCERNS:

No elite calling card. Adequate but unspectacular athleticism. Some inconsistencies at the catch point against more physical defensive backs. Route running could stand some refinement and overall tree may be lacking.

SUMMARY:

While there may not be any one area Pittman Jr. excels with at a dominant level, he has a broad blend of overall skills and physical traits that equal a well rounded and exceptional outside downfield threat and quick outlet. We may have already seen the ceiling for this prospect, but if further polish can be squeezed out and refined at the pro level, any NFL team that selects this player will find themselves happy with a do-it-all weapon.
