Whole NFL Re-Drafts are a cumbersome topic. That’s why when you have 32 NFL writers to make the picks it makes it a little easier.
It also tells you something about the people making the picks.
ESPN deployed all 32 of their team writers to do a four round re-draft of every NFL player. They used the 2020 NFL Draft order and that meant for the Arizona Cardinals the eighth pick in the draft.
When you look at the Cardinals first four picks, it says a lot about how a writer looks at the NFL.
Arizona Cardinals
Drafted by Josh Weinfuss, Cardinals reporter
Round 1 (8): Drew Brees, QB
Round 2 (57): Chandler Jones, DE
Round 3 (72): A.J. Green, WR
Round 4 (121): Patrick Peterson, CB
Four potential Hall of Fame players is not a bad thing, but every one of them is on the down slope of their career. Brees is 41, Jones is 20, Green 31 coming off an injury plagued 2018 and missing all of 2019, and Peterson is 29 coming off the worst season of his career.
It’s simply looking at the 2020 season as must win.
When you look at the players available when the Cardinals pick, here’s what I would have done:
1.8 Kyler Murray
Call me a homer, but only Dak Prescott makes more sense long-term and I like Murray with Kingsbury (assuming no coaching changes).
2.8 Danielle Hunter
Jones is fantastic, but give me a pass rusher that is five years younger. The last two years, Jones has 32 sacks, Hunter has 29 sacks. Hunter is close to Jones and only 25.
3.8 Quenton Nelson
The best offensive lineman in football.
4.8 Brandon Brooks
I’ve now completely set the tone for the offensive line and have enough talent on the offensive line and a dominant pass rusher in Hunter. You're only picking four and I didn't like the wide receiver or corner options available.
What would you have done?
